Get to knows the passing drills

Hello guys!!!! Back with my blog again!!!! This is the 9th blog from my website already and I hope all of you will continue to like and follow my website.

On the previous blog, I already talked about my favorite court in BKK. Therefore, all of you already got the place that you can practice all the drills. Let’s continue with the drills!!!!!

I had already mentioned about the shooting drills that I had experience when I was a basketball player for Tri-state Christian School team. Today, I’m going to introduce all of you the new kind of drills that is also important to your offensive skills and also show how great your teamwork with your teammates were. It is the passing drills.

Passing drills is the practices of the passing skills in many difference forms.

There is two basic form of passes.

Air Pass : The player passes the ball to another player through the air without hitting the floor.

Bounce Passes : The player passes the ball by throwing it on the floor and let it bounce to another player.

TODAY we will mainly focus on the Basic Variations of passing.

1.Chest Pass

This pass is called a chest pass because it requires the player to pass the ball out from the chest to the receiver chest too. When the player do this part, the hand will be gripped the side of the ball with the thump right behind the ball in order to spin the ball. For the good pass, after passing the ball, we should have the follow through( the hand will be in the position that the palm out and the thumb go down) to make the ball more stable and easy to catch. We also need to pass the pass to the same level between sender and receiver. Every time we do the pass make sure we step toward the receiver.

Here is an example of the pass from Jason Curry on howcast website.

2. Bounce Pass

The bounce use the same basic forms of pass as the chest pass. However, it requires a lit more effort for bouncing the ball in the right spot in order to make it easier for the receiver to catch it. We mostly bounce the ball at about the middle between the passer and the receiver because it is the bast spot to make the receiver receive the ball at the same level as the sender.

Here is same example from the Harlem Wizard players on howcast website.

3. Overhead Pass

For this pass, the player will bring the ball over their forehead and passing the ball with the follow through. Coach will often said aim for the chin of the receiver or the spot the receiver can catch and score. However, I do not recommend to bring the ball behind the head because it is easy for defender to steal it.

This pass is often use for the situation that player want to pass the ball in a long distance and over the (big) defender.

Ricky Rubio is one of the great passer in NBA. Here is the example of him doing the overhead pass.

There will be more advance passes coming up on the following blog. THEREFORE, STAY TUNE.

Thank you and hope you enjoy my blog 😉
